2005 Honda Metropolitan Base

Intro

The 2005 Honda Metropolitan – part of the CHF50 scooter production cycle from Japanese manufacturer Honda – represents the nameplate’s fourth year. There are two models of the scooter: the Metropolitan Base and the Metropolitan II. Each model has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1,849.

Each 2005 Honda Metropolitan is powered by a four-stroke liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which displaces at 49 cubic centimeters. It has a bore and stroke of 1.49 x 1.73 inches (38 x 44 millimeters) and a 12-to-1 compression ratio. Four intake valves go on each cylinder in a double overhead camshaft configuration. A 15-millimeter carburetor fuels the engine. Riders have the choice of igniting the engine with a manual kick starter or the more convenient electric starter.

Paired with the engine on the 2005 Honda Metropolitan is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which increases engine efficiency via access to a wide number of effective gear ratios. The end result is a significantly improved fuel economy when on the road. Peak fuel storage is provided by a 1.3-gallon (4.9-liter) gas tank, and the scooter has a top speed of 25 miles per hour.

Available in a variety of color schemes, including Blue Hibiscus, Kiwi, Orange Ice, and Salsa, the 2005 Honda Metropolitan is made of a steel frame for a firm build. A center stand is provided for parking the scooter. Digital instrumentation on the 2005 Metropolitan comprises a speedometer and fuel level and temperature warning gauges. Storage consists of under-seat and lockable compartments, as well as a section for hanging a helmet. Honda also includes a halogen headlight and rearview mirrors for enhanced visual perception on the road.

For braking, the 2005 Honda Metropolitan relies on all-wheel drum brakes. The suspension consists of a front telescopic fork and a rear single shock for absorbing bumps and ensuring smooth rides. Each 2005 Metropolitan rides on 10-inch steel wheels.

Each 2005 Honda Metropolitan measures 67.1 inches (1,705 mm) in length, width of 24.6 inches (625 mm), height of 39 inches (1,000 mm), and wheelbase of 46.9 inches (1191.3 mm). The seat is set at a height of 28 inches (711.2 mm). When dry, the 2005 Metropolitan has a weight of 157 lbs. (71.2 kilograms); its wet weight is 180 lbs. (80 kg).

The 2005 Honda Metropolitan is not particularly powerful or awesome in performance. However, few scooters of its model year could match its combination of retro-styled Vespa-inspired design with modern mechanics.
