The Honda CBR 600RR was first introduced in 2003 as a sporty version of the CBRFx, and was the only CBR model to be released for the 2005 model year. The bike’s RR suffix means race replica to emphasize its sporty characteristics. It was also created with similar body work as Honda’s RC211V, but with racing features such as its braced swing arm, riding position, and center up exhaust system.
The motorcycle has won the Supersport World Championship annually since its release. It has a powerful inline 599 cubic centimeter liquid cooled four cylinder engine. It gives out 105.6 horsepower at 13,250 revolutions per minute and a torque of 44.8 pound-feet at 10,750 revolutions per minute. The sport bike retained the original tire dimensions from its first release in 2003 but had enhanced front brakes with dual radial mounted calipers with a 310 millimeter disc. The 2005 Honda CBR 600RR is also easier to handle because of its lighter weight than the previous model in 2003.
Furthermore, Honda CBR 600’s 2005 model received a major overhaul with its exterior body work. It had a lighter rear sub-frame and muffler while the bike’s main parts had thinner walls for reduced overall weight. The bike’s mounting for its Pro-link swing arm upper shock was not bolted but cast to make it lighter and easier to maintain. The shock is also made of aluminum to provide lighter weight than the previous model’s steel material. It has a shorter design along with the motorcycle’s fork tubes. In addition, the 2005’s revision also had shorter and lighter handlebar mounts, front axle and foot pegs. Fully adjustable inverted front forks and sporty disc brakes were also added to the bike. It received a whole new frame, rear shock and swing arm made of aluminum.
The motorcycle’s racing features should not intimidate riders as it is not difficult to handle with its lowest seat setting of 32.3 inches. Its weight and riding position also provide a more comfortable experience even at high speeds on a paved road or at the track. In addition, the sport bike’s strategic exhaust and intake tweaks aim at a more functional power curve. Its dual stage fuel injection provides each cylinder with a pair of new injectors. One is in the roof of its air box, and another is located in each intake port. This provides more fuel to the engine with reduced time and effort. Another revision is the bike’s intake ports that deliver a balanced mixture of fuel and air through the narrow venture segment. This fills the cylinders faster than with the older CBR models.
The 2005 Honda CBR 600RR still embraces some of the 2003’s features. It still holds a sufficient amount of fuel at 4.8 gallons but is able to provide riders with a reduced weight of around 11 pounds compared to the previous model. This causes a big difference in handling and control under higher speeds on the track. The bike also packs a good amount of power that revs to 15,300 revolutions per minute. Despite being a high revving 600 cc motorcycle, the CBR still provides riders with smooth shifting among six speeds because of each gear’s separate ignition map. The engineering and internal design of the 2005 Honda CR 600RR combines speed and stability while on the track.
Over the years, Honda CBR 600RR has received more than eight titles in the yearly Supersoft World Championship. Its awards include the Motorcyclist’s Best Sportbike in 2003, Motor Cycle News’ Machine of the Year in 2003 and Bike’s Machine of the Year in 2005. The sport bike continues to please enthusiasts and gain recognition with its dynamic revisions and enhancements. Recent colors offered for the 2005 revision include black, metallic silver with black accents and a combination of red and black.
