Produced from 2004 to 2007, the Honda Big Ruckus – a scooter from Japanese automaker Honda – made its debut in the North America market for the 2005 model year. Available as a lone model, the 2005 Honda Big Ruckus came with an MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) of $5,499.
Powering each 2005 Honda Big Ruckus is a four-stroke liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which displaces at 249 cubic centimeters and has two intake valves. It generates 19 horsepower at 7,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 15.2 pound-feet of torque at 5,500 RPM. The engine’s bore and stroke is 2.86 x 2.36 inches (72.7 x 60 millimeters), and its compression ratio is 10.5 to 1. The engine relies on a 30-mm carburetor for fuel, and it is linked to an electric starter for convenient ignition.
Each 2005 Honda Big Ruckus uses a Continuously Variable Transmission, or CVT. It chooses from an unlimited number of gear ratios to make sure that the engine runs more efficiently. As a result, the scooter can get up to a fuel economy of 87 miles per gallon. The fuel tank that comes with each 2005 Big Ruckus can hold up 3.2 gallons (12.1 liters).
The 2005 Honda Big Ruckus uses a front-disc-brake rear-drum-brake system for its stopping power. It has a 9.5-inch (240-mm) disc at the front and a 6.3-inch (160-mm) drum at the back. The suspension of the 2005 Big Ruckus consists of a telescopic fork and a single-sided swing arm with one rear shock absorber. Each scooter has 12-inch aluminum wheels.
Designed with yellow tubing accompanied by black panels and fenders, the 2005 Honda Big Ruckus uses a steel frame for firmness. A kick stand serves as the scooter’s parking device, and a two-piece vinyl seat with a backrest provides enough room for the driver and one passenger.
For digital instrumentation, the 2005 Honda Big Ruckus gets a trip odometer, speedometer, and fuel level warning gauge. A vinyl side case serves as the scooter’s storage, in addition to a rear rack and a lockable compartment. A halogen headlight and a pair of rearview mirrors enhance the driver’s visual perception.
Each 2005 Honda Big Ruckus has a length of 82.1 inches (2,085.3 mm), width of 31.3 inches (795 mm), height of 42.9 inches (1,089.7 mm), and wheelbase of 57.3 inches (1,455.4 mm). The seat on the scooter is set at a height of 28.3 inches (718.8 mm), and the dry weight is estimated at 363 lbs. (164.7 kilograms).
There’s virtually nothing that makes the 2005 Honda Big Ruckus a top-notch scooter, particularly for the period it was produced. Perhaps it is understandable why it was one of the mere two model-year editions that made it to the United States. Still, the 2005 Big Ruckus performs decently, and it offers great fuel efficiency.
