2005 Ducati Monster 620 Dark

Intro

Manufactured since 1993, the Ducati Monster has consistently lived up to its name: with its high level of performance and highly customizable design, it truly is a ""monster"" of a bike. By the time the 2005 model year arrived, its manufacturer – Italian company Ducati – was producing seven models of the bike. The MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) range for the 2005 Monster was $6,995 to $13,495.

For the 2005 model year, Ducati provided three model categories: the base-level 620 Series (the regular Monster 620 and its black-colored version, the Monster 620 Dark), the mid-level S2R Series (S2R and S2R Dark), and the top-tier 1000 Series (1000S and black-colored 1000 Cromo). A superbike variant called the S4R topped off the number of models.

Powering the 2005 Ducati Monster is a four-stroke air- or liquid-cooled desmodromic L-twin (two-cylinder) engine, which is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The engine on the Monster 620 Series displaces at 618 cubic centimeters (cc), and generates 63 horsepower and 41 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. The S24 Series engine displaces at 803 cc, and pumps out 77 horsepower and 54 lb-ft of torque. The 1000 Series surpasses the aforementioned model categories with a 992-cc displacement, 94 horsepower, and 69 lb-ft of torque. The top performer of the 2005 Monster models, though, is the SR4, at a 996-cc engine displacement, 117 horsepower, and 73 lb-ft of torque.

Although the 2005 Ducati Monster is designed as a naked bike with a sturdy steel frame, it has a little more covering than in years past, with chain and exhaust guards, fenders, and exterior covers. Digital instrumentation consists of a clock, tachometer, trip odometer, speedometer, and temperature and fuel level warning lights, with an oil pressure gauge added on the S4R. All-wheel Brembo® disc brakes go on the Monster’s 17-inch aluminum wheels for enhanced stopping power. Other standard features on the 2005 Monster include halogen lighting and rearview mirrors for enhanced visibility, an engine immobilizer as a security system, and a windshield for protection against wind and flying debris.

In addition to providing more bang for your buck, the 2005 Ducati Monster is a significant improvement over the previous model year. This is due to its lessened weight, increased power, and larger disc brakes that result in improved stopping power. For the absolute best performance from the 2005 Monster, get the S4R variant.
