2005 Buell Firebolt

2005 Buell Firebolt XB9R

Intro

The 2005 Buell Firebolt was part of the XB Series of sport-oriented motorcycles that the Buell Motorcycle Company, a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, released for the 2005 model year. It is similar to the Buell Lightning CityX, albeit slightly smaller and with more storage space. Buell set the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of the regular 2005 Firebolt (the XB9R) at $8,695, coincidentally the same MSRP of the CityX. A second model, tagged as the XB12R, had an MSRP of $10,495.

Powering the 2005 Buell Firebolt is a fuel-injected four-stroke two-cylinder engine bearing a V-twin design. (The two cylinders converge in a ""V"" shape). The engine displaces at 984 cubic centimeters (cc) on the XB9R and 1,203 cc on the XB12R. Also, while the engine on the XB9R generates 92 horsepower (hp) at 7,500 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 70 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque at 5,500RPM, the engine on the XB12R pumps out 103 hp at 6,800 RPM and 84 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 RPM.

The engine on the 2005 Buell Firebolt has a total of four intake valves, with two on each cylinder. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. For fuel, the Firebolt has gas tank that can hold up to 3.7 gallons (14 liters), with a 0.7-gallon (2.6-liter) reserve.

For its stopping power, the 2005 Buell Firebolt uses all-wheel disc brakes. A 14.8-inch (375-mm) disc goes to the front; while a smaller, 9.5-inch (240-mm) disc goes to the back. The Showa® suspension on the 2005 Firebolt consists of a 1.7-inch (43-mm) inverted fork at the front and a twin-sided swing arm with shock at the back. Each Firebolt rides on large 17-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in Dunlop® tires.

As an aggressively-styled, ""streetfighter"" bike, the 2005 Buell Firebolt does not have a fairing, which is a shell for covering its lightweight yet still solid aluminum frame. The bike, however, has a spoiler for its sporty, aerodynamic feel. Other parts attached to the Firebolt’s frame include a front fender; and belt, tank, hand, light, fork and engine case guards. On the dashboard are a clock, trip odometer, tachometer, speedometer, and fuel level warning gauge. Under-seat and lockable compartment comprise the bike’s storage space, and a tinted windshield is installed as a wind and debris repellant. For enhancing visual perception on the road, the 2005 Firebolt has halogen lighting and a pair of rearview mirrors.

Each 2005 Buell Firebolt has a length of 76.2 inches (1,935.5 mm), width of 28.2 inches (715 mm) and wheelbase of 52 inches (1,320 mm). The bike’s ground clearance and seat height are measured at 4.4 inches (111 mm) and 30.5 inches (775 mm), respectively. Weight-related statistics for the 2005 Firebolt include a dry weight of 385 lbs. (175 kilograms), payload capacity of 400 lbs. (181 kilograms) and gross vehicle weight rating of 850 lbs. (386 kilograms).

Apart from a few specs, the 2005 Buell Firebolt is not much different from other 2005 entries of Buell’s XB Series. However, for people who want a smaller model with more storage compartments, the Firebolt is the obvious choice.
