The 2005 Aprilia Tuono – officially known as the 2005 Aprilia Tuono R – marked the fourth model year of the sport bike, which Piaggio subsidiary Aprilia introduced in 2002. It also represented its last entry as the Tuono R, since Aprilia revised it as the Tuono 1000 R the following model year. Two models of the 2005 Aprilia Tuono are available: the Tuono R, which had a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $12,599; and the higher-spec Tuono R Factory, which had an MSRP of $17,999.
Each 2005 Aprilia Tuono has a fuel-injected four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin engine that displaces at 997.62 cubic centimeters. The one on the Tuono R generates 126 horsepower at 9,500 revolutions per minute (RPM) and 70.8 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque at 8,750 RPM. The one on the Tuono R Factory is more powerful: with 130 horsepower at 9,500 RPM and 74.5 lb-ft of torque.
The engine that powers the 2005 Aprilia Tuono has eight intake valves, with four on each of its two cylinders. Also, it has a bore and stroke of 3.82 x 2.66 inches (97 x 67.5 millimeters) and a compression ratio of 11.4 to 1. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. For fuel, each 2005 Tuono has a 4.8-gallon (18-liter) gas tank, with a 1.1-gallon (4-liter) reserve.
For braking, the 2005 Aprilia Tuono uses all-wheel Brembo® disc brakes. They comprise a 12.6-inch (320-mm) dual one at the front; and a smaller, 8.7-inch (220-mm) single one at the back. The suspension consists of a 1.7-inch (43-mm) inverted fork and a rear shock with twin-sided aluminum swing arm. The Tuono R model uses the Showa® brand, while the Tuono R Factory goes with the superior Ohlins® brand. Each 2005 Tuono rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels, each of which is wrapped in a tubeless tire.
The 2005 Aprilia Tuono uses an aluminum frame and is covered with carbon fiber parts. Designed as a half-fairing bike – it only has an upper fairing – the 2005 Tuono is adorned with an aerodynamic spoiler, as well as the customary front and rear fenders. Chain guards, heel guards, chassis protectors and radiation covers shield the more delicate parts of the bike from possible damage or prevent them from causing harm to the occupants.
On each 2005 Aprilia Tuono, there’s a digital dashboard that contains a tachometer, trip odometer, lap timer, shift light, speedometer, and fuel level and temperature warning gauges. A tinted windshield keeps away wind and debris, and a halogen headlight provides enhanced visibility for nighttime driving.
Each 2005 Aprilia Tuono has a length of 81.6 inches (2,072.6 mm), width of 31.5 inches (800 mm), height of 47.3 inches (1,200 mm) and wheelbase of 55.8 inches (1,415 mm). The bike’s seat height is set at 32.3 inches (820 mm). At a dry weight of 410 lbs. (186 kilograms), the Tuono R Factory is lighter than the Tuono R, which has a dry weight of 414 lbs. (187.8 kilograms).
The 2005 Aprilia Tuono is remarkably light with its aluminum frame and wheels, has great stopping power and handling, and powered by a strong engine. It is therefore a top-notch sport bike to consider when looking for a ride that provides excitement.
