2004 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide Low Rider

Intro

Debuting at the beginning of the 1970s, the “Glide” family of cruiser motorcycles from American bike manufacturer Harley-Davidson has the reputation for ushering in the era of the highly stylized, “custom motorcycles.” By the 2004 model year, the Glide bike was using what Harley-Davidson referred to as the Dyna chassis, which made it easier for mass production at the cost of less-than-stellar vibration control.

However, the 2004 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide presents a healthy number of models. They consist of the Dyna Super Glide, which has a more sports-oriented variant (Dyna Super Glide Sport); the Dyna Low Rider, which has a lower ground clearance and seat height than the other models; and the Dyna Wide Glide; which is characterized by wider or longer dimensions.

Dimensions and of the 2004 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide differ depending on model. The length of the bike is measured at 7.58 inches for the Super Glide, 7.62 inches for the Super Glide Sport, 7.83 inches for the Low Rider and 7.8 inches for the Wide Glide. In terms of wheelbase, the Wide Glide has the biggest one, at 66.1 inches. (The wheelbase is 62.5 inches, 65.5 inches and 66.1 inches for the Super Glide, Super Glide Sport and Low Rider, respectively.) The Wide Glide is also the heaviest, with a dry weight of 639 lbs.: compared to the Super Glide’s 622 lbs., the Super Glide Sport’s 632 lbs. and the Low Rider’s 623 lbs. True to its designation, the Low Rider, at 5.4 inches, has the lowest ground clearance. Harley-Davidson sets the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the ‘04 Dyna Glide at $11,995 for the Super Glide, $13,995 for the Super Glide Sport, $14,995 for the Low Rider and $15,995 for the Wide Glide.

The main characteristic of the Dyna chassis on the 2004 model year is a four-stroke air-cooled V-twin (two-cylinder) Twin Cam 88® engine that displaces at 1,442 cubic centimeters and has two intake valve on each of its two cylinders. The torque is measured at 85 pound-feet at 3,000 revolutions per minute, the bore and stroke is 3.75 by 4 inches, and the compression ratio is 8.9 to 1. Each engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission for fuel conservation and more driving excitability.

Constructed with a steel frame to promote sturdiness, the 2004 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide offers the following color finishes: Brilliant Silver, Impact Blue, Sierra Red and Vivid Black. For enhanced visibility, Harley-Davidson installs a halogen headlight and two side mirrors on the bike. Also included is a digital dashboard, which contains a trip odometer, speedometer, service reminder indicator, and temperature and fuel level warning lights. The manufacturer adds a tachometer on the Super Glide Sport and Low Rider models. Two-wheel disc brakes go on each ‘04 Dyna for superior braking over bikes with the traditional front-disc-brake rear-drum-brake format. Each 2004 Dyna Glide has aluminum wheels fitted with Dunlop tires: with front 21-inch and rear 16-inch ones on the Wide Glide, and front 19-inch and rear 16-inch ones on the other models.

Like many entries of the Dyna chassis series, the 2004 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide is a better-than-average bike that forms the bridge between the company’s smaller and larger offerings. With a comparatively low seat height, comfortable ride, trademark engine and classic styling, the ‘04 Dyna is vintage Harley-Davidson.
